IVAN GREENBERG
was b
orn in Ithaca, NY, and grew up in Manhattan in the shadow of Soho, then a thriving art district. Greenberg paints faces and abstract shapes in a bold and colorful expressionistic style with diverse influences shaping his art from second-generation Abstract Expressionism to self-taught, outsider art. He currently is painting in a large format, 60" x 48", to capture on a large-scale the frantic energy and allover activity in his art. The emotions evoked in the faces suggest struggle as well as deep thinking. He has exhibited in solo and group shows since 1994. His most recent exhibits were at the A-forest Gallery (2010) and Aeon Logic Art Gallery (2010) in New York City. His art is featured in the books New Art International 1996, New Art International 2008, and Harvests of New Millennium (2010).
For several years he taught U.S. History at the college level. He has written a book,The Dangers of Dissent (Rowman and Littlefield/Lexington Books, 2010), about attacks on civil liberties in the recent American past.
